To become a member of Soul Direction Community Youth Choir, you must be committed to Ministry: becoming ministry, doing ministry, following ministry, and transforming ministry.

All members must agree to follow all of the guidelines listed below.

Age Requirement
SDCYC is open to elementary, middle, and high school students, however, ministry performance may be limited or restricted if there is an issue with staying focused and following directions effectively.

Member Requirements
Members are required to live and demonstrate a Christian attitude and life-style. Specifically, members are required to exhibit the “5 Signs of Positive Direction” immediately following:

      1.  Maintain a personal relationship with Jesus Christ through prayer and Bible study
      2.  Be an active member of a local church/ministry
      3.  Demonstrate respect and obedience towards parent(s), leadership, and adults
      4.  Be a model student academically and socially
      5.  Foster a positive and loving relationship with choir members and community

If you agree to meet these requirements, it is also important that you commit to making the choir a priority by practicing during your free time, telling others about the choir and events, and representing the choir positively through your actions and conversation. We want you to make SDCYC a priority, but only after your church, family, and schoolwork.

Audition/Performance Requirements
There is no audition for Soul Direction, but because the nature of the ministry, members must be competent in all of the notes, words, and choreography to participate in a ministry event. New Members are required to attend (4) rehearsals before participating in a ministry event.

Rehearsal Schedule
Choir rehearsal is held every 2nd and 4th Saturday from 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. at Emmanuel Baptist Church, 521 North Avenue, Newport News, VA. We understand that conflicts occur from time to time, so remember to keep the staff and your section leader informed of all absences and tardiness.

Financial Seed Contributions
We ask that each Soul Direction member consider sowing a minimum monthly financial seed of $5.00 into the ministry.  The funds are used to assist with administrative costs such as maintaining our website, producing and conducting informational and promotional mailings, providing light refreshments, etc. 

Fees
Members are required to pay fees associated with uniforms. Uniform fees for New Members are $100.00
