Soul Direction Community Youth Choir was founded by and ministers under the visionary leadership and musical direction of husband and wife team Lucinda & Kelcey McDonald.

The choir was founded January 2002 and is comprised of approximately 75 elementary, middle and high school students from various cities and churches in the Hampton Roads area.

Since its inception in 2002, the choir has ministered throughout the entire Hampton Roads area at various churches.
In 2002, the choir performed it’s first mini-tour in the New Jersey/Pennsylvania Area.
In 2003, the choir performed a mini-tour in the East St. Louis, Illinois Metropolitan area and performed at the Virginia Sunday School and Baptist Training Union Congress, Lynchburg, Virginia.
Soul Direction was featured at the Newport News Southeast Community Day and Hampton’s Praise Day. In both 2002 and 2003.
In May 2004, Soul Direction performed at the American Cancer Society – Peninsula Relay For Life.
In July 2004, the choir conducted a mini-tour in the Cincinnati/Dayton Ohio area.
Winter2004, Soul Direction was privileged to be the recording artist for the Urban Ministries International (UMI) project “The Children’s Choir Curriculum: Spirituals & Traditional Songs.” This project was showcased at the 2005 Hampton Ministers Conference and is available from UMI, Chicago, IL.
In July 2005, Soul Direction traveled to Albany, GA and Orlando, FL There Soul Direction ministered at Rhema International Ministries church in Albany, GA, Universal Studios Florida Theme Park in their STARS performance program in Orlando, FL and Carter Tabernacle CME Church, also in Orlando, FL.
In July 2007, the choir began their tour by hosting a concert entitled “The Perfect Night of Praise” 07/07/07 at 7pm, at Ebenezer Baptist Church in Hampton, VA.  That concert was the perfect prelude to the mini-tour now entitled “Mission Tour.”  Soul Direction’s Mission Tour 2007 took the choir to New Jersey and Pennsylvania.  The choir ministered at First Zion Hill Baptist in Newark, NJ, Tabernacle Baptist in Burlington, NJ, and Monumental Baptist in Philadelphia, PA.  While on tour, SDCYC even got an opportunity to fellowship at Millennium Skate World in Camden, NJ and Six Flags Great Adventure in Jackson, NJ.

Spring 2008, Soul Direction began recording its long anticipated debut CD recording.  The choir is looking for an early summer release.  The release will be ushered in by a CD release listening party and Live Concert with video recording.

In July 2008, Soul Direction plans to conduct Mission Tour 2008 in Louisville, KY, Nashville, TN, and Chattanooga, TN.

The choir performs a variety of gospel music selections including selections from today’s most popular gospel artists, traditional gospel songs, spirituals and original compositions written by Lucinda McDonald.
